Super Cute - Creative Scrappers Sketch #90

This layout was made using todays sketch from Creative Scrappers.  This is my grandson Dominick last May, he was 8 months old.  I had fun working with all these papers.  I'm really bad at keeping track of the products that I have used.  I just don't take the time.  My daughter Lisa bought the same papers and I can't wait to see what she comes up with.  So the challenge is on......Lisa show me what ya got!!!!

Enough! - 2.4 Sketchy Thursdays

This layout was made using the above sketch from Sketchy Thursdays.  I flipped the sketch and love the way it turned out.  I found rub-ons that I had stored away and really forgot I even had them.  Butterflies are always a favorite of mine and I think these look adorable on this page.  This is my granddaughter Kelly, she was all dressed up ready to go to her school dance.  Lisa wanted to take pics and Kelly wasn't really into doing that, but she indulged Lisa for a moment or two!!  She will be happy one day when she looks back at these photo's.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY DAD

MERVIN RUSSELL MCQUEEN
February 4, 1928 - October 17, 1987

Happy Birthday Dad.  My dad was only 59 years old when he passed away and thats way, way too young to be taken from us.  I have missed him so much the past 23 years.  He was a great SON,  BROTHER, HUSBAND, FATHER, GRANDFATHER and would have been a fantastic GREAT GRANDFATHER.  I miss and love you dad.

a little memory to share...........Sunday mornings were my dads time in the kitchen when we were growing up. He would let my mom sleep in.  He would always get up early, brew a pot of coffee and smoke a few cigs while waiting for us kids to wake up.  When he couldn't stand it any longer and wanted us up,  we would be woken up to him running down the hallway yelling "FIRE" or he would put on his "GEORGE S. PATTON" album and we would hear 'ole GEORGE'S speech at a very high volume.  One of those two things would always get 3 of us kids out of bed.  That would be myself and my twin brothers Mike and Steve.  My sister Gail would put the covers over her head and go back to sleep.  So our routine would be to help dad cook our Sunday breakfast.  We would prepare huge amounts of food.  Dad would have us peeling potatoes, mixing up pancake batter, frying up bacon and sausage, making toast, etc.  While we were doing all of this we would keep asking......." what is Gail going to do"?  My dad would always say, "If she doesn't get up and help, she can't eat".  The 3 of us would always reply, "Dad you say that every Sunday and then you let her come sit at the table and eat with us".  He would tell us, "Well....not this time".  Mike, Steve and I would look at each other and say "finally".  We would be so convinced that this was the Sunday that she couldn't eat!!  Well.....guess what?  My sister Gail ate Sunday breakfast with us each and every Sunday.  I'm sitting here right now wishing that we could have just one more Sunday morning breakfast as a family.

IN OUR HEARTS FOREVER

Happy Birthday Daddy

Last night we celebrated my son Michael's 33rd birthday.  Our family met for dinner at Vince's Italian restaurant for a nice meal.  Then we all went back to his house for cake and he was surprised by many of his friends that had gathered there before we arrived home.  He has the best friends ever!

I designed this layout using Creative Scrappers sketch #89.

Cute Paper Boxes

Today while I was blog surfing I came across these adorable paper boxes over on Helen's blog "SCRAP A LITTLE".  I just fell in love with them and had to try and one or two or three!!  They are prefect for Valentine's Day, Easter, Birthdays, baby and bridal showers, etc.  They are very easy to make too!!  Thats always a plus in my book.  For a tutorial........ go to "SCRAP A LITTLE".  Helen has made a very easy to follow tutorial on how to make them.  So here are the ones that I made this afternoon.  Thanks Helen!!

Day 327 at 365 Cards - Rhyme Time

Today our challenge was to make a card with a sentiment that rhymed.  I chose "Be Mine Valentine".  I have been blog hopping the past couple of days and made a visit to my all inspiring blog friend "Beatriz Jennings" and her blog iralamija.  She makes the most beautiful cards I've ever seen.  My inspiration for my card came from her today.  She always designs her cards with the cutest little details and they almost always sparkle with glitter.  So here is my inspired Valentine card for todays challenge.  Thanks Beatriz.

Day 326 at 365 Cards - Card Recipe

Today we had to use the following recipe in making our card.........

Here are the ingredients:

4.25x5.5 card
4x4 piece of patterned paper
2x2 piece of patterned paper
3 buttons
1 ribbon
sentiment

Its really hard to come up with a design when we are limited to just using the ingredients in the recipe.  But this is what I came up with......not my favorite card ever, but its okay!

******************************************************

I've been on vacation this week and decided to organize my scraproom!  While I was sorting through all my bins I came across this red and black flower that I made a long time ago and never used.  So I thought it would be perfect on a Valentine card.

Day 324 at 365 Cards - Musical Monday

Today we were to get our inspiration from these lyrics........
A dream is a wish your heart makes
When you're fast asleep
In dreams you lose your heartaches
Whatever you wish for, you keep
Have faith in your dreams and someday
Your rainbow will come smiling through
No matter how your heart is grieving
If you keep on believing
the dream that you wish will come true

and here's my card.............

The embossing looks way better in person!!  I couldn't get a good pic of my card tonight.

Sketch 47 - Card Patterns

This is my first time playing at Card Patterns.  We had to design a card using the sketch below.  I decided to make a Valentine themed card today.

I made this card using scraps and The Storybook Cricut cartridge.  I love that cartridge!  The sequin embellies are from Prima.  I bought them yesterday at a fabulous LSS called Green Tangerine.  I don't get to visit that store often, but when I'm up visiting my daughter we try to get over there.

Make A Wish

I made this layout for two different challenges over at sb.com.  Both challenges are celebrating the first birthday of  "IF IT'S GROOVY".  We were to use  punches in one of the challenges and the other was to use ribbon.  I combined the two challenges into one layout.  Hopefully I didn't break any rules!!!

M is for Mischief

I just finished up this layout for a challenge over at sb.com.  I made it for the January Border Punch Challenge.  All we had to do was use one border punch.  If we used two we get an extra vote.  I used two.  I took these photos the day after Christmas.  Lisa, Steve and the kids went to a movie and I stayed home to watch our little Dominick.  He ate a good lunch, which you can see all over his sweatshirt....LOL!  Anyway......while I was cleaning up, he decided to stand in the fridge.  Its the cutest thing you ever saw.  He just stands there, he doesn't touch a thing.  I grabbed my camera and took a few shoots and then I tied the doors closed with a dish cloth.  I don't really think its a good idea for him to do that.......but he sure looks cute while doing it!!!

Day 321 at 365 Cards

Day 321 over at 365 Cards is called ~In Stitches~.  We had to stitch our image this time.  I've been in a star mode lately as I have had to make lots of "boy" cards this month.  So once again I pulled out my trusty Cricut and cut out a few stars.  I traced them onto the background cardstock and then stitched using the outline.  It reminded me of the sewing cards I had when I was young.  Does anyone remember those.  I so loved mine!!!  This is my first time in awhile playing with the girls over at 365 Cards.  I've missed them and hopefully I will be able to play with them more often.  Thanks girls for coming up with all the challenges.  So here is my take on "In Stitches".

A little blog make-over!!

I had enough of the "Happy New Year" background........so tonight I thought I would make a change.  I found this Valentine themed background and it put a smile on my face!  I probably could change my blog background daily, but thats too much work, so I think I will stick with this one until after Valentine's Day!!  It just might put me in the mood to make some Valentine Day cards!

My 2010 Calendar

This is going to be a very long "pic" blog post!!  I finally finished my 2010 calendar that I started months and months ago.  Lisa was able to finish her's a couple of weekends ago while I watched Dominick.  She locked herself in my scraproom and didn't come out until she was finished.  I made this calendar with some of my favorite pics from 2009.

Birthday Cards

I guess you can see I've been playing around with my new toy!!

My new toy!

I was browsing around Michael's on December 31st and I spotted this cute little embossing machine on a bottom shelf.......I almost missed it!!  I didn't have a coupon, but when I went to pay for it, I asked the clerk for a current coupon and he gave me 50% off!!  I got this little cutie for $19.99 and it came with all the folders.  I just took it out of the box tonight and I'm working on a birthday card.  Its really easy to use, I think I'm going to have fun with it.  Just what I need more stuff!!!

Chocolate Chip Zucchini Bread

A friend of mine at work gave me this recipe last month and I finally had a few minutes yesterday morning to try it out! I must say very, very YUMMY!! My grandson Dominick (15 months) loved it!
Check out my old time mixer. My mom's friend Peggy Gorman gave me this mixer years and years ago. She had it stored in her garage and gave it to my mom to give to me. I have used it for years, I think I received it sometime in the 1970's! I dropped and broke the original mixing bowl a few years ago......I was so bummed! Oh my gosh.....just how old am I?????
The recipe calls for (2) 9 by 5 inch loaf pans........I used 4 mini loaf pans instead.

Here's the recipe:
3 cups all-purpose flour
1/1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1 teaspoon baking soda
3 eggs
2 cups white sugar
1 cup vegetable oil
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
2 cups grated zucchini
1 cup chopped pecans (I used 1 1/2 cups)
1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
Preheat oven at 350 degrees F. Grease (2) 9 by 5 inch loaft pans or (4) mini loaf pans ( I used a spray oil)
Sift together flour, baking powder, salt, spices and baking soda (set aside)
In a large bowl, beat eggs until light and fluffy. Add sugar, and continue beating until well blended. Stir in oil, vanilla, zucchini, pecans, chocolate chips. Stir in sifted ingredients. Pour into prepared loaf pans.
Bake for about 50 minutes or until a skewer inserted in the middle comes out clean. Remove loaves from pans after about 5 minutes and cool. Chill before slicing.
ENJOY!

A gift for my friend Carol

We had a great time New Year's Eve.  I spent it with my daughter Lisa, her husband Steve, his mom and my friend Carol, and Carol's mom Ruth.  And of course 3 of my grandkidlets .... .. Kelly, Michael and Dominick.  Carol's birthday was on the 30th, so we celebrated it last night.  I picked her up a few little things and found this great box at Michael's.  The box was $1.99 and the star wire garland were $1.00 each.  So for $4.00 I had the cutest little gift wrapped box.  It just put a smile on my face!!  It was actually cheaper than a gift bag.  Well.......a cute gift bag that is!!  You can always buy an ugly plain cheap gift bag, but who wants one of those......LOL!!!!!  I hope everyone had a fabulous New Year's Eve!

Inspiration Blog Award from Groovy Deb!!

THANK YOU GROOVY DEB!!!!  The following is what Deb had to say about myself and my blog!

Karen Lee  has continued to inspire me for some time on her blog. There is always a selection of great photos from her family that is inspirational in that it shows her love of these in her life. She also keeps color all over the board as well as fun gifs which I think shares a piece of herself because you have to search for those to share. She also sews! Need I say more? I am so attracted to the sewing machine which I cannot use! Her cards are incredible and should be sold in stores and the fifth thing I can say about her blog that I love is that she mentions she never would have thought of herself as a blogger, but she is blogging and what a gift it becomes to those who peruse it! Thanks Karen Lee for taking the step to be a blogger and inspiring all who read about you here: http://aplacetosharemystuff.blogspot.com/

After Christmas I will be doing some blog  hopping and will be passing this award on to a blog that inspires me!

Please take the time to visit Groovy Deb's blog........there is always something fun to look at!!!!

Christmas Stocking

My first ever Christmas Stocking!!!  My friend Connie makes Christmas stockings for the office every year and her patchwork stockings were my inspiration.  She gave me a stocking that she was working on so that I could use it as a pattern.  There is a little story behind that.......she got very upset with a guy in her office and she told me he wasn't getting a stocking this year and then she gave it to me.  I told her I would bring it back after I made a template, but she said no, he wasn't getting one this year!!!  He really ticked her off....LOL!!  She told me to go ahead and finish sewing it together and to give it away.  I think she will change her mind, so I'm keeping it just in case.
I love these jewel tone fabrics.  I started making a quilt using these fabrics almost 3 years ago and never finished the quilt.  The back of the stocking (pic on the right) is actually part of the quilt.  I just placed the template on the unfinished quilt and cut it out.  There goes my quilt....LOL!!!!

Christmas Cards

I've been making Christmas cards for the past few days.  I have so many to make and I work at a snails pace....LOL!  The inspiration for the snowman card came from Stephanie, I saw it on her blog:  Scrapin' Happy. I did make changes on her version to make it my own.  Thanks Stephanie for the push start on that card!  The Merry Christmas and tree light card are my own design.  I used my Cricut for all the cards.  I love that machine!  Well I better get back to card makin'!

Thanksgiving table center piece!

My Thanksgiving Day was spent at my daughter Lisa's house.  She and her husband Steve are the host and hostess with the mostest!!!  They always make us feel so welcome and we always have a wonderful time.  We stayed so late last night they had to be thinking....when are these people going to leave!!!  Steve's dad Jack cooked up the turkey, stuffing and gravy and as always it was fabulous.  His stuffing was so, so, so good and the turkey was moist!  I don't know how he does it every year, but I'm giving him the best tasting turkey award for 2009!!  Melissa made her famous rolls, terrific very large cupcakes and mouth watering stuffed mushrooms.  My brother Mike and I decided we didn't need anything else, just keep the stuffed mushrooms coming!!  I made up three veggie dishes.  Fresh green beans with olive oil, salt and pepper.  Sliced carrots with fresh ginger and maple glaze.  And a broccoli and cauliflower casserole.  Lisa made the smashed taters and all the snackies that we had before dinner.  Let's just say we ate alot of food yesterday!!  I'm back to eating healthy today!!  I only brought home the leftover carrots.  But man I could use a big bowl of stuffing and gravy......LOL!!!!
Don't you just love the table center piece Lisa made for her dining room table!!!  She went to the lumber store and had them cut the size board she needed and the guy asked her if that was all  and decided to charge her 51 cents for the board!!  It should have cost a lot more than that.  You can't ask for a better deal!  She went home and stained it and then starting adding all the festive goodies to it.  It sure made for a beautiful table.  I just talked to her and she's planning her Christmas center piece right now using that same board.  I can't wait to see what she comes up with next.

Cupcake Mini Album - Dominick's 1st Birthday

I wanted to share this chipboard mini album that I made using Dominick's 1st Birthday photo's.  I purchased the cupcake album from sb.com last year, its just been kicking around my scraproom and I finally decided that I needed to use it! ( I actually have another one that I just found....LOL! )  I used a safari paper collection that I bought at Michael's.  I did a lot of inking and added embellies from my stash.  I also punched a hole on each side of the album and used ric-rac to tie it closed.  It really works great.  My daughter Lisa and Melissa made the safari Birthday cake, it turned out fantastic!!  It was their first time using fondant!!

I had a wonderful visit from my cousin Rhonda this past weekend. We haven't seen each other for almost 3 years. We had a great time. We always do. I haven't been making cards or scrapping much lately. I am really starting to miss it. So maybe this week sometime I will get my mojo back. And I must make some time to visit my blog friends!

Everlasting Love!

Day 112 at 365 Cards was to use the word "love" on our card. I cut "love" with the Jasmine Cricut cartridge, I also used Marvy Uchida Scallop punches, Fiskars heart punch for the butterfly, Prima Nursery Tales flower, bling from my stash, the paper is Basic Grey Stella Ruby, Graphic 45 and Brazzill Basics.
Today I became the proud owner of my daughter's 3 year old Beagle. She could no longer keep him with the baby. At first I told her that I couldn't take him because he is a barker. But her and I have been so depressed and crying non-stop just thinking about finding him a new home, I got up this morning and decided I would let him move in. She was actually bringing him over early this morning as they are leaving on a trip to New York. When she got here she had been crying, so at that point I knew I had to offer to keep him. I'm going to give it my best shot as he is the most loveable but barkable dog on earth! Wish me luck.....I do love that little guy!

Today We Remember

GOD BLESS THE USA by LEE GREENWOOD

If tomorrow all the things were gone I’d worked for all my life,
And I had to start again with just my children and my wife.
I’d thank my lucky stars to be living here today,
‘Cause the flag still stands for freedom and they can’t take that away.

And I’m proud to be an American where at least I know I’m free.
And I won’t forget the men who died, who gave that right to me.
And I’d gladly stand up next to you and defend her still today.
‘Cause there ain’t no doubt I love this land God bless the U.S.A.

From the lakes of Minnesota, to the hills of Tennessee,
across the plains of Texas, from sea to shining sea,

From Detroit down to Houston and New York to LA,
Well, there’s pride in every American heart,
and it’s time to stand and say:

I’m proud to be an American where at least I know I’m free.
And I won’t forget the men who died, who gave that right to me.
And I’d gladly stand up next to you and defend her still today.
‘Cause there ain’t no doubt I love this land God bless the U.S.A.

Tommy

Tommy you say? I thought his name was Dominick? Yes he was named Dominick Russell, after his daddy's grandfather and his mommy's grandfather. So why do they call him Tommy? Well, the name Tommy was Steve's grandfather's nickname! I thought we were going to call him Nick, or Dom or even Russ!! I'm getting used to the name Tommy, so I guess I'll start calling him Tommy!!! I just wish they would have named him Thomas!! That makes more sense to me!!! But......I'm just the gramma!!!

I was able to use all scraps on this one!! Whoo-hoo!

Milk Face

Our little Tommy aka: Dominick loves to squeeze his bottle and of course the milk splatters all over his face. Lisa and Kelly were able to capture this darling shot of his milk dots. I used Safari Trek by Reminisce, brads are from American Crafts, Cuttin' Up Cricut cartridge for the lettering, AC cardstock, Fiskars border punch and ribbon from good 'ole Walmart.

I put this together on an 9 x 11 artist canvas. I painted the edges and adhered the paper (Cosmo Cricket) with Mod Podge. I bought the Karate cutouts at a local scrapbook store. My Mother's Day

I spent Mother's Day with my family at Steve and Lisa's. I started getting sick on Saturday and figured I would have to pass up Mother's Day. I got up on Sunday and felt pretty good, so I got ready, went to the store and then picked up my mother-in-law. Lisa and Steve's backyard is just so peaceful and gorgeous I want to share these photo's that I took yesterday. As you can see I didn't get many pic's of the family or of myself with my family. Thats because I got sicker and sicker as the day went on. For the most part, I just sat in the backyard and stared. I didn't want to pass my germs on to anyone, so I figured staying outside would be the best thing for me to do. When everyone got ready to leave, Lisa said, "Mom are you okay"? I said nope, I need to rest for a bit before I drive home. She took my temp and it was over 103 degrees. No wonder I felt like the pitts. So I slept for awhile and decided I better drive home. My temp had lowered to a little over 101 degrees at that point. So I'm home from work today. I felt really bad calling in today as I have been on vacation for a week. That really looks good!! I've got to go to work tomorrow, so hopefully I start feeling better.

Magnet Sets

No cards for me today!!! Lisa came over and she's working on a chipboard album, so I decided to make sets of magnets. I just wanted to work on something different today. And I had to keep busy as to not make to many suggestions to her about her album. This is her first one, she is not a scrapper, but fell in love with these small albums. I must say she is doing one heck of a good job. And mom has basically kept her mouth shut. When she completes it, I will post it here.

Most of my button collection is from my cousin Rhonda. The brads were a gift from sb.com.

I spent all day yesterday at the courthouse and 1/2 of today. I was so glad I wasn't picked as a juror. It got down to about 5 of us left. Thank goodness they finally picked the jury before I was called to the box. The trial was going to last at least 2 weeks. How could I keep up on my cards if I was on jury duty.....LOL!!!!

Super Sketchy Sunday!

Day 57 at 365 Cards was to use this sketch. I got up at 5am today, so I made two cards before daylight!! I actually had to stop myself today, this sketch was very inspiring. I must do housework! Boo-hoo!! But if I get it all done, who knows, I might make a few more cards using this sketch!! Happy Sunday to you all!!

The sunflower card was made using Bo Bunny papers that I have had for some time. An LSS was closing and I bought a ton of paper from them. It will probably take me 20 years to use it all!! The brads I received from sb.com as a gift for an order I placed with them. They are sugar coated. Really pretty! I was in a sewing mood today, I love sewing on cards but never remember to do it. I organized my scraproom yesterday and my machine is very easy to get to now.
My "hi" card was made using paper from Chatter Box. This was also purchased from the LSS that was closing. The inside of the card does match the outside. The outside pic was taken in direct sun and it changed colors on me. This card looks like the top photo, really rich brown. I also used Prima flowers, brad and bling from my stash. The corners on the inside were done with a Marvy corner punch. I also did a little sewing on this one too!

5x5 card (solid colored card stock - may be smooth or textured)
4x4 patterned paper (you may alter the edges if you'd like)
1 shape (circle, square, star, heart, etc.) - must be solid color
3 jewels
alpha stickers

No other items could be used!! Well........I made a little mistake! I used 3 star brads instead of jewels. I didn't realize we needed to use jewels until I was writing up this post....sorry!!! When I read the recipe, my brain saw the word brads.....LOL!!! I'm not going to change it now!!

supplies:
American cardstock
Scenic Route print paper
alphas from JoAnn
brads and chipboard star from my stash
green paint
EK border punch (I treated myself to a bunch of new punches this week!)

Day 54 at 365 Cards was to use at least one recycled element on our card. I hand cut the flower from the lid of a Staples copy paper box. That box had been out in my garage forever. I also just found a card challenge over at Paper Blooms that this card fit into today. I might just have to start checking out their challenges too!! I found a link to their site over on Rose's blog.

Fun With Fruit!

Day 53 at 365 Cards was to use fruit!! I had nothing with fruit on it. I found this image on my Microsoft Picture It program. I am not thrilled with this card at all. It actually looks better in real life. I sprayed it with Glimmer Mist. I did some inking. I really don't like it!!!!! I don't think I was in the mood to make a card after work today. Hopefully tomorrow will be a better creative day for me.

Tuesday Trio!

Day 52 at 365 Cards was to use a circle, a blossom & a brad. I thought about this one all day at work today and even when I walked in the door from work had no idea what I was going to do. I started looking through my stash and this is what I came up with. I have been trying to fancy up the inside of my cards lately too. I always have scraps left from the front, so I have started using them. I kind of like the look of this one!! And once again I am not using a sentiment, as I like to be able to use my cards for all occasions. I can always add one later.

Day 3 of Scor-it Week at 365 Cards

Day 45 at 365 Cards was to make a Tri-Fold Card. This is a first for me. It was a bit of a challenge. But in the end I think it came out pretty cute! I used Stretch your Imagination Cricut cardridge to make the flower. I did some hand stitching on it and also sprayed it with Glimmer Mist. I also used a Friends sticker from DCWV. The paper I used was from Scenic Route Paper Company and Basic Grey. I hand cut the flower for the inside from the Scenic Route paper. I also attached a piece of velcro to hold the card closed.

If you go to Tammy's blog you will find the instructions on how to make this fabulous card!

Do-It-Yourself!

Day 37 at 365 Cards was to use chipboard. I'm not a chipboard fan, but I went through my stuff and found this little heart. I covered it with pink Stickles glitter. I just received this Anna Griffin paper from sb.com. It was a gift from them for a nice comment that I had left for someone. I love sb.com. Its a great place to share your work and to meet new friends.

Its going to be Scor-It week soon at 365 Cards. It sounds like a fun week, with lots of interesting cards for us to try. If you have a second, go to their blog for the details. Just click here and it will take you to their blog.
